Manchester United’s Dimitar Berbatov is set for an astonishing return to White Hart Lane.

The Premier Leagues golden boot winner wasn’t named among the substitutes or the starting XI in United’s 3-1 Champions League final defeat at the hands of Barcelona last night prompting rumours he is set to exit Old Trafford.

Manager Harry Redknapp believes he can acquire the Bulgarian for around £10m, a significant gain on Spurs behalf who sold him to United for £30m back in 2008.

Redknapp is a keen admirer of Berbatov and sees him as the player to boost Tottenham’s top four credentials next season.

Spurs are on the lookout for a striker and Berbatov joins a host of players the club has been linked with in recent weeks.

Jose Mourinho is interested in securing the striker’s services in the January transfer window- with Harry Kane ruled out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.

Edinson Cavani

The Uruguayan superstar’s contract at PSG runs out this summer and the player looks set to leave after a trophy-laden 7 seasons in the French capital.

Having joined from Napoli in 2013, Cavani has gone on to make 290 appearances for PSG scoring 198 goals. (h/t Whoscored)

Mauro Icardi’s fine form has led to Cavani’s appearances being limited this season. Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea are also interested in signing the 32-year-old star. (h/t Daily Mail)

The transfers of Krzysztof Piatek and Ze Luis look to be off, with Spurs set to pursue other alternatives.

Cavani, who will be 33 next month still has a couple of good seasons under his belt and should prove to be an excellent backup for Harry Kane.

Ze Luis move to Tottenham off after facing work permit issues

Porto striker Ze Luis’ move to Tottenham is off. (h/t Daily Mail)

Tottenham were in the market for a striker and were offered the chance to sign the 28-year-old. The deal seems to have hit a roadblock with complications arising in the player’s ability to obtain a work permit.

The Cape Verde international signed for Porto from Spartak Moscow in the summer of 2019. He has scored 7 goals in 17 appearances for the Portuguese giants this season. (h/t Whoscored)

Ze Luis

Ze Luis is managed by Jorge Mendes, who also happens to be Mourinho’s agent. Mendes has already taken Gedson Fernandes from Benfica to Spurs this month in an 18-month loan worth £3.8million.

Spurs are in the midst of an injury crisis and with Kane out, have no fit senior striker in the squad. With Champions League qualification a necessity, the club has had to turn to the transfer market for solutions.

AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek was linked with a move to North London. That deal is now understood to be unlikely given the costs involved.

It now looks like Ze Luis will not be the answer to Mourinho’s striker woes this January.
