It seems an exciting time to be a Tottenham fan. Andre Villas-Boas has recruited Brazil international Paulinho, winger Nacer Chadli, French midfielder Etienne Capoue and Spanish striker Roberto Soldado – who has already scored two goals in two games so far this summer. Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen are also both thought to be on their way to White Hart Lane, but without Gareth Bale – who is fancied to finally secure his move to Real Madrid in the coming days, can Spurs think about challenging for the Premier League title? Well, if they were to clinch a deal for Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez, as the Mirror suggest, then I’d argue that they can.
Hernandez is one of the most natural goal scorers in European football, and his time at Old Trafford is frustrating many of his fans. Last season he completed just four games and was behind Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck in the pecking order. He did, however, make 22 appearances overall and scored 10 goals – which considering the small amount of time he had on the pitch is a remarkable return.
With the likes of Dembele and the aforementioned wealth of quality in the midfield areas, with Aaron Lennon chucked into the mix, Hernandez could be one of the most effective players in the league, if given the playing time.
As well as his goals, Chicharito contributed 14 key passes, a shot accuracy of 63% and a pass completion percentage of 82%.
