Scouting For Pochettino – 3 Positions That Tottenham Should Upgrade Irrespective Of What Happens This Season

Tottenham are on such a title charge, it is incredible. It is fair to say that no one expected Tottenham to sit second in the league standings with just 12 games to go. Spurs are also in with a great chance of winning the Europa League and despite being pooled against Borussia Dortmund in the next round of the UEFA competition, they are still in with a good chance of qualifying for the next round.

The London side could also be celebrating a league title, the first since the 1960-61 season and that would be quite an achievement but Tottenham don’t have the biggest squad. They might have quality but they don’t have the depth to sustain such challenges every season.

With a new transfer window coming up in a few months, we provide three regions where Tottenham have to invest next season.

Striker

Harry Kane

Harry Kane might have banged in a number of goals this season, but the rest of the attackers haven’t really done much. Son has taken quite a bit of time to get into the team and even he is not a sure shot starter.

Kane’s 19 goals this season is 11 more than the next best scorer which is Erik Lamela. The Englishman could also miss a few games due to a broken nose and that would greatly affect Tottenham’s output in attack. Spurs need another striker, if not world class, at least decent enough to help out Kane when he isn’t in form or is injured and Spurs need someone to step up.

Winger

While Tottenham do have a couple of good wide men who can cut in and do the damage, Tottenham need an out and out winger. They sold off Andros Townsend and even Aaron Lennon, though they have been incredible without these two players.

Tottenham need someone to pick up the slack at games and even give them a Plan B when things need to change. Pochettino does know his squad pretty well but having someone who can take on the defence in a wide role could be great for the side.

Centre-back

Cameron Carter-Vickers

The only reason Tottenham got knocked out of the FA Cup was due to some rather diabolical defending. Tottenham lost Jan Vertonghen for a  long time and had to give a break to Toby Alderweireld. That left Eric Dier to deputise in defence and that didn’t work out all too well.

Tottenham should not mess around with the Alderweireld-Vertonghen pair as they are the best in the Premier League but having another defender, maybe from the incredible youth team would be the best way forward. They have two world-class defenders, maybe one more to play alongside Wimmer could be the way to go next season.
