Moussa Dembele - Fulham

The search for the striker to play alongside Harry Kane or also to give him a break does not seem to be ending, though Tottenham have found a replacement it seems in Moussa Dembele, not the midfielder in their team but the Fulham forward who has been linked with a big money move to Spurs.

The 19-year-old was one of the players who almost joined Spurs in the winter transfer window but why has there been so much interest in the Championship player?

History

The French footballer was actually a part of the PSG setup for a number of years where his development took place. The forward signed for Fulham at the age of 16 and continued his growth in the English system, despite interest from a number of clubs.

His team won the Premier Academy League with the U18 squad and also then signed his first contract with the London club in 2013 which ran until 2015. He has made a few Premier League appearances for the club but wasn’t able to make himself a starter.

He scored his first professional goal for Fulham in a League Cup win over Derby in 2014 and then scored his first league goal in September 2015. His consistent displays have now made him a regular for the Championship side but it does not seem likely he will remain at the club for long.

He has played for the French squad from the U16 team to the U20 team and seems certain to make it into the senior squad fairly soon.

Strengths and weaknesses

The greatest strength that Dembele has is his eye for goal, he isn’t someone who takes long shots but is a fox in the box and most of his goals come in the penalty box. He is incredibly calm in these regions and doesn’t feel the pressure when trying to tuck in the goals, a massive positive for any player let alone someone so young.

Dembele also is great in the air and also is built to survive the rigours of the Premier League. He is used to defences in the Championship and that is something which will stand in good stead when he does make the move to regular Premier League football.

The youngster has electric pace which will be a bonus for Tottenham and a problem for most defences in the league. His pace and finishing ability certainly is a lethal combination, Jamie Vardy is someone who seems to be thriving with that combination this season and it could be something similar for the French youngster as well.

He does have the ability to find his teammates as well but the major problem for him is his inconsistency. That is something which most young players have to deal with and if he plays with quality players, that should not be a problem for him anymore.

Dembele is still young and moving to Tottenham would be a great career choice, especially with Mauricio Pochettino in the side who would help his growth and development. Tottenham should go out and get him before any other club does.
