The London club Tottenham Hotspur are currently in the market to strengthen their squad to compete against the big guns of Europe in the Champions League. Their Argentine manager Mouricio Pocehttino has been working on the key holes in the side and so far, he has done a great job. Last season, Tottenham were simply one of the best sides, but it was really sad to see them falling apart in the last couple of games.

Now, with next season coming up, the manager will be looking to replicate the same form, but this time, he will have to add more steel in the squad to challenge the newly arrived world class managers. So far, the manager has signed the Kenyan international Victor Wanyama to compliment Eric Dier in the midfield and Vincent Janssen to give Harry Kane a run for his money.

Now, according to the Daily Mail, the manager wants to add Newcastle United’s midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum to strengthen his attacking options. According to the reports from the Mirror, the Magpies, who bought the player back last summer in a £14.5m deal are demanding £25m from Spurs and the Lilly-Whites, although interested, are not willing to pay the asking price.

The 25-year-old Dutch international is desperate to play Champions League football, but the deal won’t be finalized until the asking amount is paid. But is signing Wijnaldum a good choice, or what will he bring to Tottenham Hotspur?

Spurs needed a number 9 player to compete with Harry Kane and that they have acquired. Now, it is understood that the manager is currently looking to add an attacking midfielder because let’s face it, Dele Alli cannot guarantee the same outcome in the Champions League. It is expected that Nacer Chadli’s and Tom Carroll’s future as a Lilly-White are uncertain and with that being said, Wijnaldum would be the perfect buy for the team.

The 25-year-old midfielder could operate the game from various positions, namely, from the flanks and from the attacking midfield and that could serve as a great advantage for the team. With Eriksen and Lamela driving the team forward, it is expected that Wijnaldum will be handling the game as an attacking midfielder.

Wijnaldum played every single game for the Mapgies last season and scored 11 goals and bagged 5 assists. But what makes him a perfect fit for Pochettino is his ability to press the opponents. The 25-year-old has a great stamina and also possesses a fine physique and therefore, he is never afraid to put in a tackle.

He is also a decent passer of the game and is capable of providing a defence splitting pass and looking at Kane’s ability, the Dutch-English duo might work wonders. It wouldn’t be an easy task to land the Dutch midfielder because Benitez is doing everything he can to keep him at St James’ Park and Tottenham may end up paying the asking price for the player.

Wijnaldum, when on the ball, loves to run across the defensive line and while playing as a wingman, he loves to haunt the defender with his speed as he usually cuts inside the half to take a long range shot. Besides that, Wijnaldum is also a trusted personnel when creating the chances and with the players like Eriksen, Lamela, Kane and Janssen, goals are going to come at the White Hart Lane for sure.
