The London side is out to play the pre-season friendly games, while the board is now looking forward to secure the future of their most prized possession, Eric Dier. According to the reports from the Telegraph, the club will offer Dier a new and improved five-year deal and will make him one of the club’s best-paid players on around £70,000-a-week.

Dier, who joined Spurs back in 2012 from Portuguese side Sporting, was arguably England’s best performer in the Euro 2016. His performances in the last campaign has earned the interest of some top and elite clubs and most recently, Bayer Munich’s new manager Carlo Ancelotti praised him as one of the best players at the European Championships.

Dier signed a five year contract with the Lilly-Whites last summer and it is understood that the clubs who are willing to sign him can tempt him by offering more money, hence, chairman Daniel Levy took this step to ensure the future of the 22-year-old.

Mauricio Pochettino’s utmost task now will be to keep the team’s best serving players, and recently, defender Kevin Wimmer has also signed a new five-year deal on improved terms. Pochettino, who himself signed a new deal in May is known for his great record in terms of handling the young players of the team, hence it is fair to say that Dier’s future as a Tottenham man is safe with him.

Tottenham Hotspur had a great season last term, but only because of some bad performances in the last couple of games, they saw themselves finishing their campaign on the third spot, behind their arch rivals Arsenal, but in the entire season, Dier played a very crucial role. He played every single game for the side, but one, and established himself as a regular player alongside Dembele.

Dier, who converted himself as a defensive midfielder from centre back has a mixed style of playing and that is due to his spell at Sporting. The Englishman is tough as a rock while defending, and is very good in set-pieces as well. Being a defensive midfielder, he scored his record best four goals last season and will be looking to add more in the up coming season.

There is no doubt that the player would still be the most important figure in the team, but now with Champions League to play for, many believe that the 22-year-old could easily become a captain figure for the team.

What Dier is known for is his quality of tackling. While the full backs launched themselves forward, the player remained at the back with a rock solid attitude and even when he was on the attack, he haunted the oppositions with his brilliant dribbling abilities. Now with Wanyama joining the squad, Pochettino will have that delicate balance in the team, who could dictate the game with controlled possession.

To be perfectly honest here, £70,000-a-week salary is a justified figure for the player of his stature, and being 22 years of age, it is certain that his best is yet to come. As stated earlier, Dier is a most prized possession for the squad and securing his future for a long term will be the best thing for Mauricio Pochettino.
