Tottenham have remained unbeaten this season with two draws and two wins. Mauricio Pochettino might have expected more from his side but it is a decent start as they look to remain in the top four this season.

Spurs did defy the odds last time around as they made it to the Champions League and expectations are high for a similar performance, this time, around. The club did sign a couple of world class players in Victor Wanyama and Vincent Janssen but questions are still being asked about Moussa Sissoko.

Tottenham might also try to finish in a better position than last season but there are some aspects of their game that need to be worked on. Spurs did have one of the stingiest defences last season but here are three other stats that the Lilywhites must improve upon this season.

Hitting the woodwork

Tottenham led the league in hitting the woodwork last season, well at least based on the number of shots taken. The London club hit the frame of the goal 19 times in 38 Premier League games.

Had even half of those shots gone into the goal, who knows how high Spurs would have finished. It isn’t a surprise that they had 477 shots on goal but only 250 of those shots hit the target. Overall accuracy is an aspect that the London club have to work on.

The Premier League is not a forgiving competition and every goal does make a difference.

Goals scored

Speaking of goals counting, Tottenham did have a decent showing last season as they notched up 69 goals in the league campaign but they were really slow off the blocks. Something similar has already taken part this season.

After having gone nine games without a goal, Kane finally managed to score against Stoke tonight. Manchester City have eleven goals in four games and even stuttering Chelsea have seven goals.

Tottenham were the second highest scorers last season but they need a lot more goals this time around seeing how almost every club has improved their attack. Fortunately, they brought in Janssen to help with the goal scoring. The faster the Dutch striker picks up the pace, the better the end result will be.

Spurs could have two 20+ goal scorers at the end of the season, not bad, is it?

Goals conceded in games

Another stat that Spurs did well, was the number of goals they conceded. The London side only let in 35 goals and had the best defence in England but they seemed to concede in almost every game.

Hugo Lloris kept 13 clean sheets from 37 games and that does mean Spurs conceded goals in the other 25 games or so. Although that is a decent record or in fact a good record, the way the Premier League is shaping up each season, you will have to scrutinize such small things to get the best out our your team.

A tight defence coupled with a brilliant offence is the way to go and it is no doubt that Tottenham if they can fix these issues, will finish higher than third this season.
