With Tottenham set to miss out on the services of star striker Harry Kane, at least for a while, Mauricio Pochettino has a big headache for the next game. The Spurs manager would not have wanted Kane to miss out on the upcoming game against Middlesbrough.

The English striker had just found his scoring boots and picking up an injury against Sunderland would certainly hurt his form. Nevertheless, Tottenham have to play their next game without the Englishman and the big question is how should they line up.

One striker or a change in formation?

This is exactly the scenario that most Tottenham supporters would have feared at the start of last season and this season. Kane is a vital cog for the side and if he does miss games out, a lot of the attacking threat goes down the drain for the Lilywhites.

Mauricio Pochettino did buy a cover for the striker in the form of Vincent Janssen but the Dutch striker still has not found his feet in English football and playing him as a deputy, even against Boro, he might not yield the results as required.

In five Premier League games the former AZ Alkmaar striker has failed to find the back of the net. That does not bode well and Pochettino should certainly think about playing with two up front.

Vincent Janssen

That would lead to a whole host of changes for the side. The player who should partner Janssen at the top has to be Son Heung-min, who has been on fire this season for the London club. The South Korean has probably been their best attacker this season, while the award for best player goes to Kyle Walker.

If we are to play Son as a striker, it must be Dele Alli on one side of the attack with Christian Eriksen on the other side. This might reduce the effect from the young Englishman but Alli can do a decent job out wide.

In case Tottenham needs more dynamism out wide, they can instead opt for a pairing of Eriksen and Moussa Sissoko, who was signed from Newcastle at the start of the season. The Frenchman can play on the wing and can be a physical threat as well for the opposition.

Mauricio Pochettino might have to work on his game plan also with the loss of Kane but it should not be a problem for this star-studded side.

Tottenham’s loss could be Janssen’s gain and if he can get a goal or two at the Riverside stadium, the fans would not mind Kane taking a few more games off as he recovers.
