Wanyama

Tottenham are already facing an injury crisis ahead of the London derby with West Ham during the weekend. The Danish international Christian Eriksen is understood to have been the latest casualty of the international break and just when it seemed that things cannot go any worse for Spurs, it is suspected that Victor Wanyama could have suffered a new injury, according to the reports from Essex News. The Kenyan was substituted in the national team’s game against Liberia with a suspected injury, although the details of the same have not been made available just yet.

This would come as a major bad news for Wanyama and Spurs if it proves to be true. The game against West Ham is a couple of days away and it gives him little time to recuperate. As one of the best summer signings made by Mauricio Pochettino, Wanyama has been a major player in the centre of the midfield.

He has been a regular fixture in the Premier league team; not necessarily known for his goals, Wanyama has been crucial in breaking up the opposition’s play. He has also been able to get forward on occasions, while the solitary goal against Crystal Palace earlier in the season gave his team all three points.

At the moment, Spurs have Dele Alli, Vincent Janssen, Erik Lamela, Ben Davies, Christian Eriksen, and Toby Alderweireld on the sidelines. Son Heung-Min also revealed that he has been playing with a foot injury for almost a month. He was involved in the South Korea’s international games over the last two weeks, as he played through the pain barrier.

Thankfully, West Ham are also suffering from a couple of important absentees for the game. Captain Mark Noble will be unavailable as he is serving his suspension for picking up five yellow cards so far this season. Andy Carroll is struggling with a knee injury while Diafra Sakho has a back problem. Defender James Collins is a major doubt for the game due to a calf injury and Winston Reid is in a similar situation but with a hamstring injury. Other absentees for Slaven Bilic’s team are Sam Byram, Gokhan Tore, Reece Oxford, and Arthur Masuaku.

Spurs, though, are very much after a victory given that they need the three points to end a sequence of four league matches without a win. Incredibly, one has to go back to the start of October in order to witness Spurs winning a league match. Since then, they have also failed to win in the EFL Cup and the Champions League games making it one of the worst possible runs since Pochettino took over as the coach in the summer of 2015.

After the game against West Ham, Spurs are up against Monaco and Chelsea.
