Tottenham celebrate Danny Rose's winner

Danny Rose has been winning several plaudits of late, and he helped himself to even more after scoring the winner against Burnley on Sunday. Fresh from a 3-0 win over Hull City only a few days ago, Tottenham were favourites to get the three points against Burnley. Sean Dyche’s team were struggling just three places above the relegation zone and were not getting much from their trip to London. However, they provided the home team with a mighty scare after just 21 minutes when Ashley Barnes scored the opening goal.

This proved to be the wake-up call that the club needed ahead of a packed fixture schedule. Dele Alli met in a low cross from Kyle Walker to equalise. This was the midfielder’s first league goal for Spurs since the middle of October when he scored in the 1-1 draw against West Brom. Considering that it came just six minutes after the goal from Burnley, Spurs looked extremely comfortable to go on and secure a three points that would move them within one point of Arsenal.

Danny Rose came up with the winning goal in the 71st minute, as he scored only his second league goal of the season. However, he is a left back with an attacking mindset. Since it is extremely rare for defenders – especially left back’s – to score in the Premier League, Spurs fans were left singing praises of the 26-year-old after the game. Spurs fans think that Rose has been so good that he would easily be classified as the best left back in the Premier league right now.

The Gunners, on the other hand, were winning 1-0 at Manchester City, but they went on to lose the game 2-1. It was a great opportunity for Spurs to inch closer towards the top four. After having seen Manchester United register a quite comfortable 2-0 win over West Brom on Saturday, it was imperative that Spurs picked up three points.

The goal from Rose could not have come at a much better time, as Spurs were starting to lose their patience up until that point. There is a clear void in the English game when it comes to top left backs especially after the departure of Ashley Cole. Rose seems better equipped than ever to take charge from the former Arsenal and Chelsea defender. In 12 Premier league matches this season, Rose has come with two goals and one assist. He has also made one assist in the three Champions League appearances he has made this season.
