Tottenham may have returned to winning ways, but they have not been looking as convincing as a Liverpool or Manchester United in the same period. As a result, the club’s top four ambitions still remain under threat. Striker Harry Kane, however, says that fans should not worry about the current performances since the squad feels like they have several gears still left in them. Spurs managed a narrow 2-1 win over Burnley in the last match. It was the third win in the last five games, while two games in this run have been disappointing losses to Chelsea and Manchester United.

A major reason for the resurgence for Tottenham in the last month has been the form of Harry Kane. The striker returned from several weeks on the sidelines to score in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal. It sparked a remarkable run within the 23-year-old, which saw him score 7 goals in six matches. Since then, however, Kane has been looking poor and he has not scored in the last three games. It can be classified as a drought for someone as prolific as Kane. The England international, though, does not want fans to fear about the club’s inability to stamp their authority in the games. He was quoted by the club’s official website saying;

“They’re going to be tough games. Obviously playing away from home in the Premier League is always difficult. Southampton are a great side, they’ve proved that over the last few years and obviously with Watford – we found it difficult there last year, even though we scored in the last minute.

“If we do manage to win both games we’ll be on 39 points – that wouldn’t be a bad start and we know we’ve got another gear in the locker as well.”

The biggest tests for Tottenham may come in the next three matches even though they are technically up against Southampton and Watford. It is because both these games are away from home during the Christmas and New Year periods. Players prefer playing in the home matches during this holiday season and having to make trips is certainly not the ideal preparation. This will be followed by a home match against Chelsea, but there is a danger of the team being worn by then.

Spurs have been one of the teams unlucky with the holiday fixtures, as they face three games in the face of 10 days. Chelsea, in contrast, will be much fresher having two extra days for recovery.

Kane says that there is no reason for worry, as wins against Southampton and Watford will put Tottenham on 39 points and on course for finishing the campaign with 80 points. On numerous occasions, this points tally has been enough for teams to finish in the top four. This campaign may prove exceptional with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Manchester United also in the mix apart from the leaders Chelsea.

There is especially a lot of pressure on Tottenham going into the game against Southampton, as they have seen Manchester United get a win against Sunderland to move level on points. Spurs must use the game in hand against the Saints to re-establish the three-point advantage over the Red Devils.
