Franck Kessie

Franck Kessie, one of the hottest properties to come out from Italian football is close to signing a deal with AS Roma from Serie A. According to reports from Corriere dello Sport (via Insidefutbol), the Roman club is willing to spend €25 million for the Atalanta midfielder and this would come as a big blow to a number of Premier League sides.

The Ivory Coast star has had a brilliant season for Atalanta this time around and was on the radar of many clubs. Tottenham and Chelsea were a couple of Premier League sides interested in the defensive midfielder but Roma could have stolen the march on them.

Kessie was watched by a number of scouts from across the world but the Ivorian, in his first full season in Italy, could be looking to continue his footballing career in a country that seems to suit his playing style.

The 20-year-old has a decent enough scoring record and moving from a relatively smaller club to one of the bigger ones in Italy is a decent enough move considering he still is young and moving from country to country would not be the best for him.

Tottenham would certainly be upset at losing out at one of the best talents to come out from Africa in recent years. Kessie is a dominant midfielder in the heart of the park, somewhat like Victor Wanyama but he does have an eye for goal as well and could have provided Tottenham with a lot of cover in the centre of the park.

Kessie could actually end up going for a lot more than the €25 million stated as Atalanta are looking to maximise on their star player. Roma might make a quick move to close the deal in the winter window but Kessie would remain at Atalanta until the end of the season and join the Giallorossi at the start of next season.

Another reason why Atalanta might want to do business with Roma is the fact that the Serie A club could throw in Riccardo Marchizza in the deal to sign Kessie. Roma are second in the Serie A standings just four points behind Juventus, although the Turin side have a game in hand on the Romans.

Atalanta are having one of their greatest seasons ever in the top division as they lie sixth and could be fighting for a Europa League place come the end of the season. Should they decide to sell Kessie, they want as much money as they can get their hands for their rising talent.
