Youri-Tielemans

Tottenham’s trip to Belgium might have ended on a sour note as they lost their first leg round of 16 tie against Gent in the Europa League but there have been reports that some of the scouts took time out to see Anderlecht’s rising star Youri Tielemans.

Spurs lost 1-0 against the mid-table side from the Belgian league and even though they fielded a nearly full strength side, they couldn’t muster up a lot in attack with Harry Kane hitting the frame of the goal.

But according to the Daily Mail, Spurs sent their scouts to another part of Belgium to keep an eye on 19-year-old Tielemans. Anderlecht were in action against Zenit St Petersburg and while the youngster didn’t get on the score sheet, his side did end up winning the game thanks to two goals from Frank Acheampong.

Tielemans has been linked with a move to a number of Premier League clubs in the past and it is no surprise that Tottenham could have taken a chance to get another report done on the midfielder.

The 19-year-old has been at Anderlecht for close to 15 years and it is just a matter of time before he does move away to continue his development at a bigger club in Europe.

The Belgian has a great range of passing and plays mostly in the heart of midfield, and can chip in as a defensive midfielder as well. Tielemans is just another player that is coming out from the golden crop of Belgian players. He should be a little wary about Belgian talent burning out just like we saw with Adnan Januzaj at Manchester United but Tottenham do have their own set of Belgians that can help the Anderlecht midfielder out.

Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Mousa Dembele all are important players at White Hart Lane and Tielemans could feel at home in London with the trio.

Tottenham also have been known to bring in young talent and Daniel Levy could be plotting another move for a highly rated player, though some of the transfers regarding young players has not worked out all too well for the London side.

Tielemans might not make it straight into the starting XI at Spurs but given time, he could turn out to be a great acquisition and even Mauricio Pochettino is known to give young players a chance, such as the game time Harry Winks has seen this season.

Tottenham would have to move fast if they are to sign Tielemans as a bidding war will start in the summer.
