Chelsea Reportedly Willing To Strike Surprise Deal For Tottenham Attacker

Moussa Sissoko of Tottenham.

It is an honest assessment to make that Moussa Sissoko has not been a shining star at Tottenham this season. The signing from Newcastle in the summer has failed to live up to his £30 million price tag from Rafa Benitez’s side and has often been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane.

Reports now claim that Chelsea, of all clubs, are set to sign the former Newcastle man. Spanish TV station Telecinco (h/t calciomercato.com) claims that Antonio Conte will sign the midfielder from Spurs at the start of next season for a fee between £12-18 million.

While that fee would be a knockdown price on what Tottenham paid and it would also question their decision to sign the player in the first place, there are reports coming in from Express Sport that both clubs from Milan also want to sign the Frenchman next season.

Mauricio Pochettino seems to have been frustrated with Sissoko and it is no surprise that the club wants to sell him off but the rumour from the Spanish channel doesn’t really make a lot of sense.

Tottenham would not be willing to sell Sissoko to a direct rival and certainly not for a valuation that would make Daniel Levy go completely berserk. The more believable rumour is the one which suggests that Sissoko could be involved in a swap deal with Ross Barkley.

The Everton midfielder has re-found his touch under Ronald Koeman in the second half of the season. The swap would certainly work a treat for both sides as Ronald Koeman, the Everton manager, is interested in getting the Frenchman to Merseyside.

The fact that Sissoko is a sure shot to leave the club does raise a number of questions on the transfer dealings at Tottenham.

Spurs have not been able to get the best of the signings they have gotten from last season or even the season before and even other big money signings like Vincent Janssen have struggled to get going under Pochettino.

There aren’t many complaints as of now as Spurs are set to finish second in the league but should they slip up with their signings again next season, it could lead to a lot of anger from the fans for the crazy money being spent.
