Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks was taken off injured in Spurs’ Premier League game against Burnley. The 21-year old was stretchered off in the 2-0 win after falling down awkwardly on the touchline during the game, just before half-time. He was replaced by Moussa Sissoko, who continued to defy the manager’s faith in him.

Winks has been having a good season with Tottenham so far, after being promoted to the first team by Mauricio Pochettino. The fans fear that the player’s injury might actually hamper his progress. Pochettino had confirmed that the midfielder will undergo Scans today.

“We hope there is no big issue but it will be difficult for him to play again this season,” said Pochettino.

“He twisted his ankle. We need to see the scans and then start his recovery.”

However, the BBC reports that the player might have actually suffered a broken ankle and might miss the rest of the season because of that.

The England Under-21 international was not the only Spurs casualty on Saturday. Kenya captain Victor Wanyama was also withdrawn during the first half due to an injury.

Tottenham fans reacted on Twitter in devastating fashion after hearing that Winks could be sidelined for the rest of the season. Some fans were clinging on to any remaining hope that the midfielder would return in due course.

  1. Having both sprained and fractured the same “ankle” I can tell you that the pain & disability from the “sprain” was 10X that of the fracture. With the fracture I was mobile after several days. With the sprain I was bedridden and in agony for two weeks.
