Tottenham have been linked with Maximilan Philipp for quite a while now and it was earlier believed that Philipp was being tracked by Tottenham with a view of a move in the summer. However, the latest development is that Borussia Dortmund have joined the race for Philipp.

Maximilian Philipp plays for German club Freiburg and Dortmund certainly would have had a close view of the player. According to Kicker (h/t talkSport), Borussia Dortmund are ready to battle Tottenham for the signing of Freiburg forward Maximilian Philipp. The 23-year-old is reportedly ready to move on during the summer transfer window.

The report claims that Dortmund are chasing Philipp after Marco Reus suffered another injury. The Germany international suffered a partial ligament tear in his knee during the German Cup last month, and he faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines as he could now be out until October. Dortmund seem to be searching for a replacement and they have identified Philipp as the one. He has a reported release clause of £17.5m.

The versatile 23-year old, who is capable of playing anywhere in the attack, scored 9 goals and set up 5 in 27 games across all competitions for the German outfit. Though Philipp is a talented youngster, it is hard to see him fitting into Pochettino’s set-up.

The amount of talent at our disposal is enormous and Philipp would only be a luxury. Philipp mostly played as a secondary striker for Freiburg and featured very little on the wings. In case he arrives at Tottenham, it could mean the end to either of Vincent Janssen or Moussa Sissoko.

While Sissoko’s departure would be a welcome one, Janssen’s cannot be considered that way. The lad is talented and only had a bad season. His attitude was spot on and he showed determination and courage to handle the pressure. On the other hand, Sissoko still thinks that he is worthy of starting in the Tottenham XI and it is really sad to see that he is still not realising he is not Tottenham quality. His attitude is disgusting and certainly needs to be sold off.

If Philipp’s arrival means the end of Sissoko, then it would be a good move. If Philipp is being targeted as a replacement for Janssen, then it is something that needs to be thought about.
