According to The Sun, Spurs are prepared to make a £17.5 million move for German youngster Meyer, who wishes to leave Schalke this summer. The North London side were willing to offer £39 million for Meyer last year, but his price tag has been halved after refusing to sign a new contract with the Bundesliga club.

Spurs scouts were in Poland last week, to watch Meyer in action for the German U21’s against the Czech Republic. Germany meet the English U21’s tomorrow night, in the semi-finals of the U21 European Championships. The midfielder will no doubt be analysed closely, again.

Tottenham manager Maurico Pochettino is keen to finalise a deal for Meyer, who fits the club’s philosophy in being a young player whose value should rise.

Ladbrokes are offering odds of 1/2 that Meyer will join a Premier League club this summer. Spurs are tipped as the side most likely to sign him, at odds of 7/4. While Liverpool are second favourites at 5/2. Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of the player and may look to use his influence in the German market, to land him (Daily Star). The Reds did business with Schalke last summer when they secured the signing of centre-back Joel Matip.

Manchester United are 6/1, while German champions Bayern Munich are 7/1.

The Schalke man already has 122 appearances to his name for the Ruhr-based club, having made his debut at the tender age of 17. The 21-year old now, though, is ready to move on.

Meyer has just one year remaining on his contract and Schalke would like to cash in on their asset, before he leaves. The player though is happy to run down his contract if the right offer doesn’t come in.

Schalke would rather sell to a Premier League club, to avoid strengthening any Bundesliga rivals. They lost Germany star Julian Draxler to Wolfsburg, when he moved on and would like to avoid a repeat situation.
