Tottenham are interested in one of Sassuolo’s best players from last season, Gregoire Defrel, according to Tuttomercato Web. The Italian source claims that Spurs are in a battle with three other clubs for the signature of the 26-year-old striker.
Defrel was ever present amongst the goals for the Serie A side last season as he scored 14 goals from 35 games in all competitions. The 26-year-old played in a number of positions last season and starred both as a central striker and even as a winger, which will provide us with a lot of versatility next season.
It is reported that Southampton, West Ham United and even Leicester City are tracking the Frenchman and are plotting a move for him.
Defrel could be the answer to our cover for Harry Kane. We might have Vincent Janssen in our squad but the Dutch striker has failed to really light up the goal scoring charts for us. The French striker might not be the biggest of names out there but he is known to be a hard worker. Pressurising the defence from the top is one of his greatest assets.
It is this pressing game that can work for our favour. We also know that Mauricio Pochettino deploys a counter-attacking game for us and Defrel would be a great asset to have in our side.
What is surprising is that we are linked with a player out of the blue. Defrel could be a budget signing as a cover for Kane and it would make sense to not splurge the cash on a player who would not be the first choice for us next season. We doubt if Kane will be playing along with another striker next season because Dele Alli would be the one starting just behind the English striker.
The link to Defrel is still in its infant stages and we will have to keep a tab on how we approach the Frenchman. Sassuolo would be willing to sell him should they get the right amount of money for him but only time will tell if Defrel would join us this summer and be a hit for us in the coming season.
