Arsenal completed the unlikely signing of Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon for a club record £52.6 million. They certainly smashed their transfer record, which stood at £42.5 million when they signed Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid, and seem to have sent a statement of intent as they look to win the Premier League title.
What is a little strange is that Lacazette was expected to join Atletico Madrid and couldn’t make the trip as the Spanish side have to deal with a transfer ban. Since he had already declared his desire to leave, he had very few options and Arsenal came out to save the day.
The 26-year-old does have a great record of scoring goals for Lyon and Arsenal fans might be rejoicing their latest capture but there were a number of Tottenham fans who came out in force to share their views on this acquisition. And here are some of the best reactions from Twitter for you to feast on!
Squatters saying lacazette is out of our league are completely right. We’re champions league and they’re europa #COYS

You’re foolish if you think Lacazette isn’t a good signing.
You’re also foolish if you think he’d get start in an XI over Harry Kane #COYS

We have been the far better side since Mauricio Pochettino took over and have the bragging rights since we finished above the Gunners last season. Wenger’s side also missed out on the Champions League, while we are into the group stages already.
“Spurs have the bragging rights…” because they did something Arsenal did every season for decades. Meanwhile, Arsenal won yet another trophy. Saying things like this makes Spurs supporters look silly. Stop it.
Spurs also have not been “the far better side since Pocchetino took over.” Over his three seasons as manager, Arsenal have won more points in the league than Spurs, finished higher in the league 2 out of the 3, and won two FA Cups. In what world is that better? Let alone “far better?” Again, stop it.
As for Lacazette vs Kane, let’s wait and see, shall we? Going off the past three seasons, it’s quite clear that both score for fun. In that span, Lacazette scored 91 goals in 129 appearances and Kane scored 94 goals in 139 appearances. Kane is Premier League proven so he has the advantage going into the season, but Lacazette will be surrounded by much better players at Arsenal than he was at Lyon. As I said, this is a case of wait and see. Both teams are in very good positions up front, with Kane the best of the bunch going into the new season and Arsenal having more depth.
Yes Spurs do have the bragging rights just now. Arsenal had St Totteringham day but last season Spurs were 2nd and Arsenal nowhere …so for now at least Spurs do indeed have the bragging rights.
Arsenal lifted a trophy. Spurs didn’t. Nothing to brag about there.
Either a nice mis interperation of my point or a poor attempt at ignoring it. Sadly the days when winning a cup means a successful season are long gone, especially for a big club such as Arsenal. Todays its all about the top four Im afraid and Spurs were second and Arsenal nowhere….Spurs for now have the bragging rights
Bragging rights – Behave we won a trophy that gap got bigger. Cant put pressure in the cabinet
Keep telling yourself that if it helps. You had 2 weeks of bragging rights, then we won silverware and made that gap bigger. Cant put pressure in the cabinet.
Top 4 wasn’t enough when Arsenal did it without winning a trophy and it wasn’t enough for Spurs last season. Football is about trophies. Sadly you seem to misunderstand that. Finishing top 4 is a nice season, yes, but it isn’t cause for celebration.
With your crap record at Wembley, you will be fighting relegation, remind everyone how impressive it is seven semi finals lost in a row, you had your glory second with no trophies…..now jog along
You seem to totally misunderstand or choose to. Bragging rights are fleeting and nothing to do with history or cups. Spurs finished above Arsenal in the league therefore for five minutes until new season have the bragging rights. Winning a now second rate cup that almost all teams even in championship play their fringe players in, is nothing more than a good day out to both finalists. These days top four is the big worthwhile trophy.
As for Lacazette? Who is he? but if he does as well as Kane in next three seasons then he was a great buy.
Interesting, as the facts would show that when Arsenal beat City and then Chelsea, all three played their best 11. You’re inventing things to suit your argument.
As for Lacazette, if you don’t know who he is you shouldn’t be a football blogger.
Top 4 is merely about money and for teams like Arsenal and Spurs, having the opportunity to lose to the likes of Bayern and Barca every season. Even if Spurs had more money than Arsenal, which they don’t, there were no bragging rights won for Spurs when Arsenal went on to add yet another trophy a week later.
