Tottenham Give A Head-on Reply To The £1 Billion Takeover Rumours By Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg

Tottenham have been left surprised by rumours about Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg coming with a mammoth £1billion offer for the club, according to Esquire.

Spurs have been one of the fastest growing teams in the Premier league, as we have been able to register back-to-back finishes in the top four even while not spending a substantial sum of money. Furthermore, we could be on an extremely strong financial footing if the new stadium generates revenue as expected. Spurs are constructing a brand-new stadium with a seating capacity of above 60,000 – almost twice the capacity of White Hart Lane – at a cost of more than £800million.

Spurs will need to justify the extravagant costs, and so far there has been a lot of positive reviews about the sponsorship interest in the new stadium. However, it looks like Spurs may not need the sponsorships and other figures to carry them through over the course of the season. Instead, we may end up having a rich benefactor like a Chelsea or Manchester City in the near future.

Zuckerberg is one of the richest individuals in the world, and his wealth has only been growing with Facebook’s soaring share prices. So far, the young billionaire has resisted the urge to enter into various forms of investments, as he has focused only on making Facebook a great entity. After having succeeded in his task, it appears that Zuckerberg is stretching his vision to other walks of life. He has reportedly made a £1billion offer for taking over the club – money that will not be a huge problem for the tech billionaire who is reportedly worth around $62billion.

However, Spurs have quickly rejected rumours about the offer from Zuckerberg according to the club’s official statement.

“The club engaged Rothschild to secure the funding for the new stadium.

“As expected, many proposals came forward including bank debt and equity investment.

“The Board believes this was the optimum solution in the interests of fans, employees and shareholders and for the continued development of the club.

“The Board is not in any discussions relating to a takeover offer for the club.”

The club will be moving into the new stadium for the 2018-19 season, and it is expected that the move will limit the budget of the club, especially in the transfer market. However, the arrival of a rich investor at this point in time may be of great assistance to the club. Spurs have been struggling to make any significant impact in the summer transfer window, as manager Mauricio Pochettino has been unable to strengthen his team so far.

  1. Now would be the perfect time to sell the club, especially to someone so wealthy. I’m sure Joe Lewis won’t be putting any of his fortune into the club for player investment and I’m sure the wage structure will be kept from going any higher, 2 things that are holding the club back. An offer of £1bn is more than fair and if true Joe Lewis should consider and accept the offer, not only for the sake of his own pocket but for the good of the club too. Saying that they want a figure of £2bn is just greed beyond belief, who in their right mind would pay £2bn for Spurs? If an offer really has been made Joe Lewis owes it to the club to sit down and find a compromise at least, it’s the only way Spurs will have of keeping up with the likes of Man City & Chelsea and finally putting Arsenal in their place. 2. I quite like the fact that we have a club that competes financially.

ENIC don’t want to sell. So it is really not outlandish to set a price higher than the value of the club’s assets. The new stadium is worth £850 million, the squad is a huge asset*, then there’s the youth set up, the training centre, the NFL deal, TV money, marketing and sponsorship money. You have to project profitability into the future.

I know, Tony, I grew up money the extreme left wing – but like it or not, that is the world there people operate in.

*Just to put squad value into perspective, not long ago the rumour was that United (or someone) offered £100,000 for Harry Kane. Apparently the club responded by saying £200 million or no dice. And our fans were saying it was too bloody right as well and United could pay up or bigger off! And that is just one of our exceedingly highly rated young squad.

  3. Hey if you’re happy winning nothing coming a close second now and again, good for you, but I want to be on a level playing field with the rest of the big boys, then lets see who can do it.

  4. I didn’t say I was ‘happy’ winning nothing.

I said having some dodgy fellas financially dope your club in order to buy themselves some trophies is something I have frowned upon Chelsea and Citeh for doing, and I am quite happy that we have risen from the graveyard that Mr Scholar made of the club to one that is challenging for the title completely via revenues generated by the club.

I am hopeful that our youth set-up, young and exciting squad, young and exciting manager, financially astute chairman, and the massive improvements in infrastructure (training ground, new stadium), can give us a new era of success. And that success will be sweeter by doing it the right way.

    See the difference 🙂

Everton now have a sugar-daddy. Do you believe that will win the league within the next five years?

  5. I think Everton will push us this season, they’ve made some good signings. Doing it the way Levy is ain’t going to win anything you have to spend the money to attract the best players and keep them. WE CAN’T

  6. I am far from hostile to Everton – one of my uncles played for them back in the day, and a lot of my cousins support them. But they won’t get close to us this season. If they had that much money they would be bitching City out of Aguero and Chelsea out of Kante. They are losing their two best players this summer. Even if things go as well as can be, I doubt they will do much more than challenge for the top four over the next half decade, and maybe win the occasional minor trophy. Eventually if they spend enough they might be able to break through the glass ceiling – but remember how long it took us.

See, that is where we disagree. You don;t think we will win anything following the current model. I think we will. I disagree with you. Neither of us knows who will be right just now, and one of us will be wrong. I hope its not me…and you should hope its not me, as well 🙂

p.s. I believe we are the least threatened by Everton because our whole emphasis in squad development is via the youth set-up and the development of young players. It is the other clubs who depend primarily on spending who will have to outspend Everton to stay ahead of them. Just my opinion 🙂

  7. Only time will tell whether Everton have been smart and closed the gap between us and them, this time next year we’ll know.

  8. And if we are going to improve naturally, are best keeping away from hasty purchases in this absurdly inflated market and sell and buy in our own good time, we’ll know too 🙂
