Everton Wants To Sign Tottenham Midfielder On Loan, But Daniel Levy Is Prepared To Sell Permanently

Moussa Sissoko interests Everton – if you think this is a news item from last season, I wouldn’t blame you. But this is the latest news from French paper L’Equipe (print edition) and magazine France Football. There is a catch though!

L’Equipe claims that Everton are looking to sign him on loan and have approached Spurs. It also reports that Daniel Levy is against loaning Sissoko and would only want him to leave permanently.

France Football, on the other hand, believe that Tottenham are open to a loan move provided it comes with an option to buy. They also reported the interest from French Ligue1 side Marseille, who are willing to negotiate with Spurs for the player.

Notwithstanding the fact that these two news items differ, the underlying theme is that Tottenham want Sissoko out. Everton’s interest is surprising considering what happened between the player and the club last transfer season.

The French midfielder flirted with the idea of signing for the Goodison Park side on the deadline day, so much so that manager Ronald Koeman was waiting to usher him for the medical! But Sissoko took a turn and landed at the White Hart Lane instead.

The £30million man however, failed to convince the fans of his worth as his performances were anything but praiseworthy. He struggled to break into the first team and even on rare occasions when he got a chance, he fluffed his lines. This is not to say that he became a bad player overnight but he certainly didn’t fit the bill at our club.

Now, how true is Everton’s interest? Everton’s director of football Steve Walsh is an admirer of Sissoko while the player himself wants to stay in the Premier League. They are also interested in brining Swansea’s playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson to the Goodison Park. Is their interest in Sissoko a backup for Sigurdsson?

Tottenham wouldn’t mind Everton’s interest in the player and should in fact welcome that. Our interest in Ross Barkley is well known and we may well use Everton’s interest in Sissoko as a leverage for that deal. But Barkley or not, Sissoko looks destined for an exit.

  1. 2 easy options.
    Option 1 – Barkley/Sissoko swap deal
Option 2 – Everton take Sissoko on loan for a yr, we take Barkley on loan for a yr and we’ll then sign him on a free and sell you Sissoko in return lol – Ultimate Levy

  2. Two mediocre utility players- overpriced and with potential attitude problems.
Sissoko may be an easier covert than Barkley. Phil’s loan deal would be okay but they both might end up back where they started.
