Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino must be feeling all the heat in the world. Wherever he goes for a press conference, the first question seems to be ‘why aren’t Spurs signing any one this summer transfer window?’

The Lilywhites are the only Premier League side to have not signed a player this summer yet but Pochettino has promised the fans, in an interview with Sky Sports, that he will “move on the market”.

“We are calm but we have a very clear idea of who we want and what we need to do to achieve our target,” he said. I want to say to our fans ‘don’t be worried’ because today there are a lot of rumours around. We will move on the market, sure, and we will be competitive like last season, sure.”

Pochettino’s comments come in the wake of fans’ frustrations who have seen Premier League competitors run away with their signings. Manchester City and Manchester United have flexed their muscles while Everton have found new cash to burn.

Even Arsenal found a way to spend money, leaving most of Spurs’ fans heart burnt over the lack of activity at the White Hart Lane. Some of the anger is directed towards Daniel Levy as there is suspicion of new stadium funding hindering our transfer funds.

Now that Pochettino has indicated of a move ahead, who is going to be the first signing? One of the probable candidates is Everton playmaker Ross Barkley who continues to remain a firm favourite of the rumour mill.

The England international has entered the final year of his contract and has already indicated his desire to move away from the Goodison Park. Manager Ronald Koeman has admitted failure in keeping him at the club. Earlier this week, he told the Daily Star that he is “100% certain” that the 23-year-old would be sold this summer.

That should be enough fodder to the news that Barkley could finally be on his way to Tottenham. There is reported interested from Manchester United and Arsenal as well but Barkley wants to move to the White Hart Lane.

The delay in the transfer so far has been the transfer fee, as Everton were hoping to get £50million for the player. For someone with just one year left on the contract, that is almost like £100million. The report on the Daily Star points out that Everton will settle for a more pragmatic £25 – £30million which should interest Levy.

Will we see the end of this matter and witness Barkley joining Spurs? I hope the player himself is tired of hearing his name too often in the papers!
