Tottenham are reportedly looking to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s young defender Benjamin Henrichs, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

The report claims that we want to add some cover for our right-back slot and have decided to move for the 20-year-old. This decision was taken due to us selling Kyle Walker and in all probability, the Leverkusen man would be a cover for Kieran Trippier.

The Mail also adds that the young German’s representatives want to discuss a move but his parent club aren’t willing to let him go easily and have valued Henrich at £18million. This isn’t the first player from the Bundesliga who is being linked with us, as Hoffenheim’s Jeremy Toljan was in the news as we made an enquiry for the defender.

Even though Henrichs is a young player, he does have a lot of experience under his belt. The 20-year-old played in 37 games in all competitions for Leverkusen and even was part of their Champions League journey, where he made 7 appearances.

The German is adept at playing on both sides of the defence and would come in handy should we deploy him as a wing-back too.

The youngster was also a part of the Confederations Cup side that picked up the title defeating Chile and a lot is expected from the 20-year-old in the future.

Big Money To Replace Walker

Spending £18million on a 20-year-old might be a little steep but Henrichs does have the quality and the potential to become one of the best in his position. The German also has five years left on his contract, and thus his high valuation. We would have to part with our Kyle Walker money to bring him to London.

There will be a big question about the future of Kyle Walker-Peters too. The youngster is also tipped to achieve a lot of accolades at Spurs and if we sign Henrichs, there will be a lot of competition for the right-back slot, which will only be good for all players involved.

We have not signed a single player so far in the summer and even though Henrichs is not the biggest name in the world, he will be a great option to have as our right-back for a number of years to come.
