Ross Barkley

Looks like even an injury can’t prevent Ross Barkley from being linked with Tottenham Hotspur. The Everton midfielder who is set to be out for three months after injuring his hamstring will be the subject of a formal bid by Tottenham Hotspur, as reported by The Telegraph.

The England international has been caught in the middle of a tug-of-war between Everton and Tottenham all through the summer. Barkley has moved into the final year of his contract and has refused the fresh terms offered to him by the Toffees.

That has, however, not prevented them from slapping a £50million price-tag on the youngster. Tottenham maintained their interest but baulked at the asking price, thus waiting for the price to come down.

Barkley’s injury has hampered Everton’s plans of selling him at a premium, although Chelsea are also reportedly interested in the player. Daniel Levy is ready to bid £20million up front, plus £8 million in add-ons, which he believes to be of fair value, according to the Telegraph.

Spurs are also owed £4.5million from the sale of Gylfi Sigurdsson, whom the Toffees purchased from Swansea City, because of a 10% sell-on clause. Levy hopes to get this factored in the transaction to march over the opponents and get the deal quashed at the earliest.

Chelsea too have followed Barkley for many years and since he falls into home-grown quota, he will be an attractive proposition for the Blues. His wages are also a problem for Tottenham, as Barkley is reported to be eyeing in excess of £100,000-a-week, which should be difficult for us with the strict wage structure we have in place.

However, the major attraction for Barkley is to work under Mauricio Pochettino, who has gradually established a name for developing English talents. The midfielder will be behind the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Mousa Dembele at the White Hart Lane but could be swayed by the prospect of reviving his career.

After having been stuck on zero signings for so long, Tottenham opened the account with the prized catch of Davinson Sanchez from Ajax. Hopefully, Barkley would be the next through the entry door.

Do you think Ross Barkley could, at last, make his move to Tottenham?
