Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is hopeful that his injured star Eric Lamela will return to full training in October, according to talkSport.

The Argentine winger is currently on the sidelines with a hip injury that has kept him out of action for 11 months. Initially, it was thought that it would be a matter of weeks for Lamela to get back on the field but now it has almost been a year.

There were even claims in his native country that the midfielder may not ever return from his layoff and it could be the end of his career. Thankfully though, the player has not lost confidence or hope of returning to action, and it is now being reported that he would be back in training by next month.

The 25-year-old was not included in Tottenham’s Champions League squad, raising suspicions that the manager is preparing ground to part ways with his countryman.

However, the Spurs boss has now thrashed all those rumours and has exuded confidence that his star player will return to training in October. This is great news for the player as he aims to get back on the field and play regular football again.

Pochettino said, “We are happy with Erik’s rehab. We expect in early October he will join the team and start the possibility to train with the team.”

The attacking midfielder was last seen in a Spurs shirt last October, when he played in the 2-1 EFL Cup defeat to Liverpool at Anfield. Since then, he has been away from the action, with surgeries on hips at the end of last season adding to his frustrations.

Pochettino is happy with how the rehabilitation is going and is hopeful of seeing the midfielder in action before the end of this year. Thankfully, the player is in a great mood and is trying to be fit as early as possible, which is always important in long-term layoffs like this.

The Argentine international joined Spurs from AS Roma in 2013 and has made 85 Premier League appearances for the North London club. After an indifferent start to his career, it was under the tutelage of Pochettino that Lamela started expressing himself.

In fact, just before his injury, he started playing an influential part in Tottenham’s campaign, raising hopes of finally fulfilling his potential.

Let’s hope he gets back to full fitness soon!
