‘He got a big knock on his ankle’ – Tottenham Boss Reveals Why He Chose To Leave Star Player Out Of Swansea Game

Tottenham had to deal with a frustrating night at Wembley as we were held to a 0-0 draw against Paul Clement’s Swansea City. The away side did do well in containing us but we should have done much better, given that we had defeated Borussia Dortmund earlier in the week.

A bit of a surprise was not seeing Ben Davies in the starting line-up against the Swans. The Welshman had started the season extremely well but had to be content on the bench and Mauricio Pochettino explained just why that took place.

As quoted by London Football news, the Argentine said:

“He got a big knock on his ankle against Borussia Dortmund. For different reasons we needed to rotate because we have a lot of games ahead.

“But I think one player is not the key to winning or losing. When you have 25 players you can use everyone.”

Pochettino seemed a little miffed when the question of our failing at Wembley was alluded to. He said:

“I am happy with the performance but disappointed with the result. We created lots of chances and deserved more.

“Maybe it is Wembley. We have spent one season talking about this but, in the end, what can we do?

“We have to play here. We have to put White Hart Lane in the past.”

The boss certainly is right in stating that the performance was actually very good. However, this marks yet another Wembley home game where we have not been able to pick up three points in the Premier League.

There might be some positives in the recent weeks as we haven’t lost at Wembley but have actually outplayed opponents at the stadium. Swansea were resolute at the back and barely had an attempt on goal. But we have to pick up home points and make this a fortress like the Lane was at one point of time.

Davies’ absence might have hurt our defending a bit and hopefully the Welshman will make a quick recovery as we have a number of games coming up in the league, Champions League and League Cup.

Not many would have expected Davies to become such an important player for our side but he has put a lot of work into his defending and him being a vital cog for us is the perfect reward for the defender.
