‘Thanku Mr Irony! Thanku so bloody much!’ – Tottenham Fans Go Crazy On Twitter As On-Loan Flop Scores On His Debut

Tottenham Hotspur fans received a pleasant surprise from Turkey when news came in from Fenerbahce that their on-loan striker Vincent Janssen has scored on his debut.

The former AZ Alkmaar forward was expected to be a strong support for Harry Kane but he could not live up to the expectation. His first season was in more ways than one, a disaster.

Although critics would point out that strikers coming to England would take time to settle down and that Janssen should get one more year, Mauricio Pochettino decided to do away with him.

The deadline day signing of Fernando Llorente from Swansea City was the final straw and Janssen was pushed further down the pecking order. He completed a season-long loan move to Fenerbahce soon after, in search of first-team football.

There was sympathy for him among the fans as most of them thought Pochettino should have persisted with the young striker. However, Janssen looks to have found his mojo back in Turkey, as he started his Fenerbahce career with a goal on his debut for the club, after just 16 minutes, helping his team to a 4-1 victory.

The 23-year-old striker was a goal machine during his time in Netherlands and although he struggled at the White Hart Lane, there is no doubt about his quality. His struggles during 2016/17 season now look like a thing of the past as he seems to have started his life in Turkey on the right foot.

Fans were surprised too and took to Twitter to express their rainbow of emotions. We picked some of the best emotions for you to read.

  1. Great to see Janssen starting his loan spell with a goal, here’s hoping he scores many more this season whilst at Fenerbache and comes back to Spurs a better player and with renewed confidence in his abilty. Keep up the good work Vincent!
