Tottenham are not in the mix to sign talented Bordeaux winger Malcom, says renowned Spanish Journalist Guillem Balague. Malcom, who made the move to Ligue 1 in January 2016 after 51 appearances for Corinthians in two years, has become one of the hottest young properties in Europe after becoming an integral part of the Bordeaux set-up.

The Brazilian winger has made 21 appearances for Bordeaux this season and has attracted a lot of Premier League interest through his excellent breakthrough season. Malcom has grabbed 7 goals and 5 assists so far, with all but one assist coming in the league to help Bordeaux sit 15th in Ligue 1.

With his skills and speed this season, the nippy Bordeaux man has been linked with moves to Spurs as well as Arsenal. Tottenham do have a history of recruiting players from France and have signed the likes of Benjamin Stambouli, Clinton Njie, Etienne Capoue and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou during the past few years.

However, none of the aforementioned players shone at Spurs and are currently not in the club. Stambouli has become a regular for Schalke, while Capoue, after a fine last season with Watford, has spent much of the time on the bench this campaign under Marco Silva.

Njie, who struggled to make an impact at North London has been in rollicking form this season for Ligue 1 outfit Marseille, whereas Nkoudou was sent on loan to Burnley last week to continue his development.

Balague, who regularly brings the latest news and updates from inside the game, however, has claimed that Arsenal are way ahead of Tottenham in the race for Malcom.

“I know for a fact that Malcom is of interest to Arsenal, but it is not all agreed,” Balague told Sky Sports.

“Spurs are not in the equation, it had been heard that they were linked to him, and what a signing he will be. He is a left-footed player who plays on the right-hand side with a lot of pace, he is very direct, a very good dribbler and very, very fast so we’ll see.”

Tottenham are yet to do any business in the January window but after our gaffer admitted that we are not close to any signings so far, there is a general frustration amongst the fans.
