Ryan Mason

Ryan Mason recently shared the fact that he cannot play football anymore since his recovery from the horrible skull fracture has not gone to plan and doctors have told him not to play the game anymore.

The former Spurs man had to retire from playing the beautiful game but he has received a lot of support from all corners of the footballing fraternity and even Mauricio Pochettino had stated that Mason could join Tottenham’s coaching staff, should he want to.

Pochettino did coach Mason for a couple of years before the 26-year-old joined Hull City. He suffered the skull fracture a year ago against Chelsea and had to be rushed to the hospital with his recovery taking a long time.

Speaking to Soccer AM, the former Spurs man was waiting to see how things would go but did state that he was with us for 18 years and Tottenham was in his DNA.

“I’m still not sure [what I’ll do next]. I’m just going to see where everything takes me. I’ve only been retired for four or five days so I think I’m going to enjoy a bit of time with my family, see everyone and then see where I want to go with it all.”

Mason had wanted to return to football but a recent scan showed that was not going to be possible.

“It was a decision that was pretty straightforward. Like I said, the issue came up with the brain so there were a lot of numbers that they chucked at me and potential things come on, usually later on in life, that could come on earlier in life.

“I’ve had 13 months out of the game which is a long time and I think that’s probably helped me with the retirement. It was a shock because the last seven or eight months I’ve been ready to play and just waiting so to get that news two weeks ago was a massive shock but I’ve got to move on.

“I’ve got to accept it and I look forward to the next chapter now.”

A Tough Character But Mason Should Continue In Football

While Mason might want to rest for a while, he should be looking to get back into the footballing world and coaching is the perfect role for him. He is young and can work under one of the best in the world under Pochettino. Let’s hope Mason makes the right decision regarding his future.
