Abdoulaye Doucoure

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure in the summer transfer window.

According to reports, Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal are also keeping tabs on the midfielder, who has impressed for Watford this season.

The 25-year-old has been vital for the Hornets this campaign and continues to dish out impressive performances at a consistent rate. Doucoure’s consistency and extra-ordinary work-rate in midfield simply show he is capable of plying his trade for a bigger club in the Premier League or outside England.

Doucoure has been Watford’s standout performer this season, making 30 appearances and netting seven times in the process to stand as their top-scorer.

And the Frenchman’s fine form has attracted a host of Premier League clubs, including Spurs, who are keen to sign him from Watford in summer, the Mirror reports.

Mauricio Pochettino needs to plan for future with Mousa Dembele ageing and has also struggled with injuries since last year. The Belgian has been a consistent performer for the Spurs but has endured an injury-hit campaign.

Pochettino trusts Dembele highly but knowing the player has reached his 30’s, he cannot afford to take a risk.

And if Spurs sign Doucoure, he would walk straight into the first XI and could be a real upgrade on the likes of Eric Dier, Harry Winks and Victor Wanyama.

Apart from Doucoure’s defensive shielding, the midfielder has shown this season that he also keeps an eye for goal. He has already netted seven for the Hornets so far and that tally being a central midfielder is simply worth praising.

The former Rennes man has displayed good awareness, intelligence and hunger for goals this campaign. He has been at his bulldozing best at times, bringing a mix of awareness and combative approach to his game.

Doucoure remained coy when asked about his future in a recent interview. The midfielder said:

“We’ll see what the state of play is in the summer and then we can ask questions.”

The hard-tackling midfielder has still two years left on his current contract at Watford but he is expected to have high interest in summer from some of Premier League’s big boys.

It would be interesting to see where Doucoure ends up but Spurs should definitely go all guns blazing for him in the summer transfer window.
