Tottenham are eyeing a double swoop from Swansea as they look to add defensive reinforcements next season. A report from The Express claims that Mauricio Pochettino could be moving for Alfie Mawson and Ryan Bertrand. The pair is valued at £65m, with Saints wanting £25m for Bertrand and Swans wanting £40m for Mawson, according to the report.
Mawson and Bertrand both have performed extremely well for their respective sides but at present, both of them are likely to face relegation.
The report also claims that Spurs will lose players such as Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose and the pair stated above could be their replacements next season.
Mawson has impressed ever since he joined Swansea from Barnsley while Bertrand has always been a quality performer for Southampton.
Bertrand has played 32 Premier League games for the Saints this season and has four assists to his name while Mawson has played 35 times for the Swans and has a couple of goals under his kitty as well.
With Alderweireld future uncertain due to contract issues and Rose’s tryst with injuries, it would make sense for Tottenham to consider signing both Mawson and Bertrand.
However, losing the pair would undoubtedly be a huge blow for us. But Alderweireld is likely to be the bigger loss considering how good he has been since moving to the side.
Pochettino would have to work a lot on improving both Mawson and Bertrand but hopefully, we can sign the pair while retaining either Alderweireld or Rose beyond the end of this season.
The summer will be an interesting one for us given that we need to rebuild our squad and as long as we finish in the top four, we should be able to sign the players we want.
