Christian Pulisic

According to former Arsenal striker Paul Mariner, Tottenham Hotspur might make a move for Borussia Dortmund’s American star Christian Pulisic in an attempt to boost their standing in the USA market. As reported by Express, the pundit feels we might benefit from a transfer, especially with our new stadium set to host NFL games.

The report also claims that Tottenham are keen on a move for Pulisic and Mariner’s opinion does seem plausible. Not only would a player like Pulisic considerably boost our attacking forces but he would also create a buzz in the American market.

“I think he is fine where he is, but having said that, you look at (Daniel) Levy, he’s looking to get NFL games in at his new stadium, he’s trying to look at the American market,” Mariner said.

“How many millions of shirts will they sell? So there’s a business side of this. There’s a playing side and a business side of this.”

However, Mariner was quick to add that Pulisic will be better off staying with Dortmund for another year or so and that is understandable since moving to Tottenham would not provide him with adequate game time for now.

Considering the fact that he is just 19 years of age, it is important for him to prioritise game time more than anything else.

Regardless of whether or not we pursue a deal for Pulisic, there is no denying that he is a splendid talent and could go a long way in boosting our stance in the American market. Hosting NFL games will be a big deal for us and given the kind of businessman that Daniel Levy is, he should look to milk the opportunity.

Express also claims that Liverpool are keen on a move and for now, it remains to be seen if they pursue a deal for him. But if he continues to be with Dortmund beyond the end of the season, we could benefit by signing him next summer.
