Toby Alderweireld

According to a report by Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur will cash in on Toby Alderweireld this summer. Manchester United have been an interested party for quite some time now and the report claims that Spurs will be looking for a fee in the region of £75million for his services.

Alderweireld, who is nearing 30 years of age, is arguably one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League right now. Despite being a powerful defender, he did not receive adequate game time under Mauricio Pochettino last season. An injury ruled him out for quite some time but even when he was fit, Alderweireld did not feature much.

Davinson Sanchez’s arrival has limited his chances further, as the former Ajax star established a solid partnership alongside Jan Vertonghen. Hence, in such a situation, it does make sense for Tottenham to offload him this summer.

With a year left to go on his current contract with us, it would be unnecessary to hold him back only to lose him for £25m next summer. Surely, a player of his calibre deserves better.

The report from Daily Star further states that the growing costs of our £850million stadium could prompt Daniel Levy to sanction a sale for the Belgian.

Losing Alderweireld will be tough since he has been one of our most dependable players at the back. However, he must prioritise his own career and join a club wherein he can actually clock regular playing minutes on the field. Hence, Tottenham must agree to a sale, provided United are willing to shell out the required sum.
