Tottenham started their Premier League campaign with a 2-1 win over Newcastle United, thanks to goals from Jan Vertonghen and Dele Alli.
The Magpies got a goal through Joselu and all the scoring took place in the first half as Vertonghen needed some help from goal-line technology to give us the lead.
Newcastle hit back almost instantly, as a Matt Ritchie cross was glanced in by Joselu but Serge Aurier’s pinpoint cross was expertly nodded in by Alli as the Englishman got us three points at St. James’ Park.
Alli might not have done a lot in the World Cup but he certainly was in great form as he played down the middle. He even had a few brilliant moments when out wide on the left.
Mauricio Pochettino had Son Heung-min on the bench but he decided to play with Lucas Moura from the start.
There was another talking point as we wore our third kit at St. James’ Park but a number of fans were happy with the result and shared their reactions to the goal and performance from Alli.
Brilliant today Dele and a well taken goal. More to come, I'm sure of it. Great to have you back.
