Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that Toby Alderweireld could be a part of Tottenham’s season as all players start from “zero”.

The Metro reports that Alderweireld was linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer. The report adds that the player didn’t feature a lot for us in the second half of the previous term, thereby leading to the impression that he might exit the club.

The deal could not be finalized as Daniel Levy had slapped a huge price-tag on Alderweireld’s head and Ed Woodward was unwilling to meet the asking price, as per the Metro.

Toby Alderweireld

Pochettino was asked about Alderweireld before the Manchester United clash and he was quoted by the Metro as saying:

“For me, all the players who are here start from zero. It is so important to give opportunities, not because of last season or two seasons ago. It is a new chapter.

“When I signed my new contract here, it was like I’d arrived on the first day. No prejudgment. You start from zero.”

Since Tottenham did not sign a player in the summer transfer window, keeping hold of Alderweireld could work out great for us.

The Belgian is one of the top defenders in the world and he will certainly play a number of games since we are competing on four fronts this season as well.

Pochettino needs all his players to give their 100% on the field and given the situation, it should be the same for Alderweireld’s case too.
