Tottenham are interested in signing Mexican star Hector Herrera, as per Calciomercato. The report adds that Tottenham will face competition from AS Roma for the signature of the 28-year-old midfielder.

Herrera plays for Porto and was impressive for El Tri during the World Cup in Russia. The 28-year-old already has a goal to his name for the Portuguese side and has helped them to four wins on the bounce.

The 28-year-old mostly plays in a deeper position and is known for his passing range and tackling, meaning he could be a decent option for our midfield.

Spurs do have a packed midfield with Christian Eriksen, Eric Dier, Moussa Sissoko, Mousa Dembele and Harry Winks in the team but we could do with an extra pair of legs.

Tottenham were the only club to not sign any players in the transfer window but it would be great if we sign new faces in the winter window.

The season will have a lot of games and we might need to bring someone in for added depth, particularly if a player picks up an injury.

The Mexican wouldn’t start too many games for us but we could use his experience in the coming seasons.

Herrera might not be a young player but Mauricio Pochettino is one of the best in the world when it comes to improving players.
