Nathan Ake

Mauricio Pochettino has been tracking Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake in recent weeks, according to the Daily Star.

The 23-year-old Ake joined the Cherries at the start of last season and has helped them to sixth place in the Premier League this term.

The Dutch international was on Chelsea’s books for a number of years before leaving on loans to Reading, Watford and Bournemouth.

The report claims that Pochettino has identified Ake as a possible replacement for Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld. The Belgian hasn’t signed a new deal with Spurs, after failing to join Manchester United in the summer, as per the Daily Star.

Ake joined the Cherries for £20m (h/t Daily Star) and the report adds that Eddie Howe doesn’t want to sell their central defender. The report, however, claims that Bournemouth could ask for more than double the price they paid for the 23-year-old.

The report adds that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is also interested in the defender. Mourinho knows the player from his time at Chelsea and believes Ake can solve the club’s defensive issues, as per the report.

Howe was certain about the player’s ability and was quoted by the Star as saying:

“A player of that quality and with the attitude he has is tough to recruit in this day and age. He is good enough, will only get better and is great age.

“He has got the attitude you can build a team around.”

The central defender is certainly a player with a lot of potential and it will be interesting to see who might win the battle in trying to sign him.
