Tottenham lost to Manchester City on Monday thanks to an early goal from Riyad Mahrez. However, one of the talking points even before the game was the state of the Wembley pitch.
The ground hosted an NFL game on Sunday and with Tottenham playing just a day later, it was always going to be a race against time to ensure the pitch looks and plays well.
Unfortunately, the pitch barely resembled a football one as it still had the NFL logo and “yard” lines strewn all across it.
The Wembley turf after had a lot of areas where sand had to be put in place and there were mistakes from both sets of players as they sometimes struggled to play on the surface.
The NFL game was also the reason why this Premier League tie was shifted from Sunday to Monday, and it shouldn’t come as a surprise that a number of Tottenham supporters were upset at the condition of the surface.
Pitch is a joke with all the markings – #COYS

Watching Tottenham play at Wembley with the NFL emblem really confuses my brain pic.twitter.com/WalhjHx1kv

Gutted with that result. Should’ve grabbed a point. The pitch didn’t help Lamela there but no excuses City are class & I fully expect them to win the league. Could’ve done with Glenn Hoddle out there today. Winks has to start the next game!

Horrible pitch conditions & a very weird game. Played poorly for large parts, but still could’ve gotten a point if we were more efficient with our chances. City far from their best, but it’s the same old story for us this season – lacking that killer instinct. Gutting. #coys

Could easily blame that pitch for Lamelas shot, would of happened at the new stadium probably not

Not enjoying this #TOTMCI and the pitch is very distracting, could they not get some green spray cans out?⚽️😂😂 #COYS pic.twitter.com/xnnRWkycn2
