Mauricio Pochettino

Duncan Castles was speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast and claimed that Mauricio Pochettino was the name to replace Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid in the summer.

The La Liga giants signed Julen Lopetegui to replace the Frenchman prior to the World Cup. However, things didn’t go well for the Spaniard as he was sacked after Barcelona’s 5-1 win.

Castles was quoted by the Daily Star as claiming that Pochettino accepted the Madrid job last summer but was stopped by Daniel Levy:

“Pochettino wanted the job in the summer, he was offered the job, accepted it and Daniel Levy prevented it from happening.

“You have to take from all of that that he’s very much a Real candidate and still the No.1 candidate from Madrid’s perspective to be the next permanent manager of Real Madrid.”

Pochettino signed a new deal to remain at Tottenham till 2023, and another pundit, Ian McGarry believes this is not the end of Real’s pursuit for our manager.

The pundit believed that the Real Madrid president Florentino Perez would not want to make a mistake with his next appointment, and would be working to get Pochettino from Tottenham.

Spurs have become one of the best teams under the Argentine and it would be a huge blow to lose him. However, the former Southampton manager has created something special here and we seem to be getting better with each season under the boss.
