Spurs news: Tottenham charged over pitch invader after Champions League tie

The BBC reports that UEFA have charged Tottenham after a spectator ran onto the pitch during the 1-0 win over Manchester City in the Champions League.

The incident took place late in the first leg quarter-final tie and the fan approached Fabian Delph. The Manchester City defender was involved in a clash with Harry Kane which led to the Spurs star being substituted in the second half.

The report adds that Mauricio Pochettino also asked the man to leave the field at full-time. The BBC adds that the case will be looked into by UEFA on 16 May.

There have been several instances of supporters running onto the pitch in recent weeks and confronting rival players.

Aston Villa star Jack Grealish was punched by a fan during their derby against Birmingham City, and Chris Smalling was also confronted by a fan during Manchester United’s game against Arsenal.

Tottenham have other concerns too

The win over Manchester City came at a cost as both Harry Kane and Dele Alli suffered injuries.

Tottenham released a statement confirming that Alli has fractured his hand while Kane suffered ankle ligament damage.

There is no word on when Kane will return, however, the medical team is assessing Alli and will see if he can play against Huddersfield at the weekend.
