“Fantastic group”, “We topping” – Several Tottenham fans pleased with Champions League draw

Latest Spurs news: Tottenham to face Bayern Munich in Champions League group stage

Tottenham got a fairly easy group in the Champions League this season after a couple of tough draws in recent years.

Last season, we faced Inter Milan, PSV and Barcelona, and needed some last-minute heroics to qualify for the knockout rounds.

Some crazy moments in the knockout stages took us all the way to the final, but it didn’t work out for us against Liverpool.

This season, we face Bayern Munich, Olympiakos and Red Star Belgrade, and avoided another group of death.

Fans happy with opponents this season

Bayern are the toughest team we face in the group, and we should get 12 points from the clashes with the other two sides.

Olympiakos and Red Star cannot be taken lightly, but Spurs have enough quality to avoid any slip-ups.

Red Star defeated Liverpool last season and it will be interesting to see how we deal with the away games.

Topping the group would be great as we could end up facing an easier side, but this was a great draw for us as we avoided some tougher teams such as Atalanta, Inter Milan, Lyon and Lille.

Many Tottenham fans were pleased with the draw as we look to go one better in the Champions League this season, and here are some of their reactions from Twitter.

Tottenham to try January move for 25-year-old star they missed out in the summer

Tottenham to retry landing Bruno Fernandes once the winter window opens

Bruno Fernandes was excellent for Sporting Lisbon last season as he scored goals for fun.

The Portuguese international was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham (h/t Sun) but couldn’t move out of Sporting. That doesn’t seem to have affected him as he already has six goals and five assists for Sporting this season.

However, A Bola (h/t Sun) claims that Tottenham will try to sign Fernandes once the winter window opens.

Tottenham have struggled this season and could lose Christian Eriksen at the end of the season. The Dane is in the final year of his contract and hasn’t been at his best either.

Fernandes is seen as the ideal replacement for Eriksen (h/t Sun), and it could be an interesting January window for the 25-year-old.

Tottenham need goals in the team

Although Spurs have several attacking players, things just aren’t working for us this season. Harry Kane leads us with five goals but needs more support from his teammates.

Fernandes is a goal-scoring midfielder and would provide us with a lot going forward. The 25-year-old is capable of playing out wide too, and it will be interesting to see if we make a serious offer for him.

Tottenham spent big in the summer on Tanguy Ndombele, and Giovani Lo Celso’s move could be made permanent next season.

Spurs still need to spend in the winter window to salvage the season, and Fernandes could be our ticket into the top four.

Newcastle enter the race for Tottenham-linked Ugurcan Cakir

Newcastle United are interested in Trabzonspor keeper Ugurcan Cakir, according to Turkish outlet 61 Saat (h/t Sun).

The Turkish international has been one of the most impressive keepers in the league and has been linked to Tottenham as well. Cakir could cost around £17million and has also been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool (h/t Sun).

Tottenham have had a bit of a goalkeeping crisis at the moment with Hugo Lloris’ injury. The captain dislocated his elbow against Brighton and is out till 2020. Paulo Gazzaniga should replace him in the first-team and impressed last season when he got a run of games.

Do Spurs need a new No.1?

Lloris is still one of the best in the league but age is catching up with the captain. The 32-year-old has a tendency to make mistakes, but his experience is a bonus for this Tottenham side.

It will be interesting to see how well Lloris recovers from the problem, and should the Frenchman not come back 100%, we could be in the market for another top quality keeper.

Gazzaniga can stake a claim for the No.1 spot over the coming months. Hopefully, he performs well in the absence of Lloris, and we don’t have to spend big in the summer for a new keeper.

Juventus could throw Adrien Rabiot into Christian Eriksen deal

Juventus star Adrien Rabiot hasn’t lit up Italy after joining on a free transfer in the summer. The 24-year-old was one of the most coveted players in the summer and decided to swap PSG for Juve.

However, there is a lot of competition for places in Turin, and Le10 Sport (h/t Calciomercato) claims that his time with Juve could be coming to an end.

The Serie A giants want to sign Christian Eriksen and can land him on a free transfer in the summer. The Dane hasn’t signed a new deal with Tottenham and is free to discuss terms with foreign clubs in January.

However, Juve want the Dane in January and could offer Rabiot in the deal for the Dane (h/t Calciomercato).

A great option for Tottenham

With the Dane seemingly set for an exit, getting a replacement in January would be a great deal for Tottenham.

Rabiot was one of the most impressive players at PSG before being frozen out of the team. The 24-year-old could do a great job in our midfield, and working under Mauricio Pochettino could help his development.

Losing Eriksen for free at the end of the season would be a terrible outcome from this situation, but getting Rabiot in January would soften the blow.

The French midfielder would get half a season to get to grips with our style, and Pochettino has made January signings in the past.

Lucas Moura is one example of Pochettino’s moves in the winter window, and the Brazilian has been a success since his move from PSG.

Barcelona target Harry Kane as Luis Suarez replacement

Barcelona are planning for life without Luis Suarez and are in the hunt for his successor.

Mundo Deportivo (h/t Mirror) claims that the Catalans have shortlisted four strikers who they see as a long-term successor to the Uruguayan.

Suarez has been excellent since joining from Liverpool, however, age is catching up to him. The forward has looked a little out of sorts in recent months and will turn 33 next year.

Harry Kane is one of the players on the four-man list, according to the report, with Marcus Rashford also in the midst.

Kane has been linked with an exit from Tottenham due to a lack of silverware (h/t Mirror). The start of our season hasn’t gone well either and it will take a bit of a miracle for us to land a trophy.

The FA Cup is still on for us, but our performances have been well below par this season.

Kane trying his best for the team

The Englishman has scored five goals for us this season but just isn’t getting enough service from the others.

The 26-year-old is possibly the best striker in the world and would fit into any top side. Barcelona need to think about the future with Lionel Messi also in the same ageing boat as Suarez.

Harry Kane

Kane recently signed a new deal with Spurs and losing him would be a huge blow to the team.

We have built a team around the Englishman and losing the jewel in the crown would hurt us a lot in the long run.

Tottenham could ask for a huge sum for the 26-year-old, and it will help in the rebuilding of the side.

However, we have seen this happen before with Gareth Bale’s transfer and that didn’t work out too well for us.
