Latest Spurs news: Pochettino plays down talk of late penalty against Arsenal

A North London derby without controversy is next to impossible and we got a dose of that on Sunday.

Tottenham and Arsenal played out a 2-2 draw at the Emirates but we allowed a two-goal lead slip.

However, the last 10 minutes were crazy as both teams tried to get the third goal to win the tie.

Spurs had their chances to wrap up the game late on, and we should have won a penalty when Harry Kane was bundled over in the box by Sokratis.

The referee didn’t point to the spot and this was a surprising decision given that replays suggested there was contact between the players.

Mauricio Pochettino was asked if we should have had a penalty, but the Argentine wasn’t going to court controversy with his response (h/t Football.london):

“I don’t know. This season from now I don’t want to talk about the referees or VAR, we need to accept the rules.

“In the end now it is done. Look what happened with Aston Villa. In this type of situation there is no point talking too much, we just have to accept the referee’s decision.”

VAR on Spurs’ side in one major game

Poch is right in not going too much into VAR as the technology and the new rules have saved us one this season.

We escaped the Etihad with a draw as Aymeric Laporte handled the ball in the build-up to Gabriel Jesus’ goal.

VAR still isn’t foolproof and it was a surprise that the penalty decision wasn’t given to us.

Nevertheless, we managed to get a decent point against the Gunners, and we remain unbeaten in two of the toughest away games that the Premier League has to offer.
