Latest Spurs news: Sessegnon could start full training during international break

Football.london’s Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold took part in another Q+A session as the players headed off into the international break.

Spurs haven’t been at their best this season and it will be important for our stars to return without any injury problems.

Ryan Sessegnon

Summer signing Ryan Sessegnon is yet to play for the side after picking up an injury for the England U21s.

The youngster could be the solution to our left-back issues, and Gold provided an encouraging update on the exciting 19-year-old (h/t Football.london):

“Sessegnon is now in the final stages of his conditioning training and is expected to start to join in with full training at some point during this international break.”

Gold added that the English youngster could still need more time to become an option for Mauricio Pochettino:

“It could still take a couple of weeks for him, working with Pochettino, before we see much of him, but he could still be a good option for the bench this month if the manager wants a bit of pace for late in matches.”

Spurs need some freshness in the team

Tottenham haven’t seen a lot of action from their summer signings as Tanguy Ndombele also picked up an injury recently.

Giovani Lo Celso is yet to make a start since his move from Real Betis, and it would be great if we could call upon Sessegnon soon.

Tanguy Ndombele celebrates after scoring for Tottenham

All the three players are dynamic and can add some extra sparkle into the Spurs team. Ndombele had been great in the wins over Aston Villa and the draw with Manchester City.

However, the team looked flat in the defeat to Newcastle and we had to hold tight in the 2-2 draw against Arsenal.

Sessegnon could replace Danny Rose in the starting XI, and the youngster is capable of playing as a winger too.

Ditching a corporate job to follow a dream isn’t easy, but when football comes calling, who can say no? Been following the beautiful game since 1998.

Tottenham eyeing Celta Vigo winger Brais Mendez and Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrino

Tottenham are interested in Celta Vigo’s 22-year-old winger Brais Mendez (h/t Guardian). The Spaniard has featured in 13 La Liga games for Celta Vigo this season but has no goals or assists.

Mendez had a better season last time around as he racked up 6 goals and 7 assists from 31 La Liga games.

The youngster has also played for the senior Spanish national team and scored the winner on his debut against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Mendez has featured in several youth Spanish teams and started his career with Sardoma. He then moved to Santa Marina and Villarreal before landing up at Vigo. The 22-year-old mostly plays on the right of the attack but can also take up the role of a midfielder.

Lorenzo Pellegrini also an option for Spurs

The Guardian adds that Spurs are also keeping an eye on Lorenzo Pellegrini of AS Roma. The 23-year-old has featured for the Italian senior side this season and has done well there.

Pellegrini plays mostly on the left but can also do a job in the midfield. The 23-year-old has four assists from six Serie A games, and it will be interesting to see if we move for either player in the coming months.

Tottenham see Hakim Ziyech as Christian Eriksen’s replacement

Tottenham want to sign Ajax star Hakim Ziyech as Christian Eriksen’s replacement, according to the Express.

Ziyech helped Ajax reach the semi-finals of the Champions League last season. Tottenham also got a close look at the player during the semi-final as we beat them.

The 26-year-old Morocco international has been in decent form too. Ziyech has 6 goals and 11 assists in all competitions for Ajax and impressed in the 4-4 draw against Chelsea.

The Moroccan bagged two assists in that Champions League game and has been involved in six goals in his past four outings.

Eriksen missing in action

Eriksen, for his part, hasn’t been as prolific as Ziyech this season. The Dane is out of a contract at the end of the campaign and only has two goals to his name in all competitions.

The report claims that Eriksen could leave in January or at the end of the season, and Spurs have identified his successor. Eriksen didn’t even come off the bench in our 1-1 draw against Sheffield United at the weekend.

The former Ajax man isn’t the only one who hasn’t done well this season, but we could do with more creativity in the final third. Ziyech can play in several positions and has been in good form for Ajax over the past few years.

The Moroccan was involved in 29 league goals last season and 24 goals in the season prior to that.

Ziyech is capable of playing for most top teams in the world, and it will be interesting to see if we make a serious move for him soon.

Tottenham to bid £50m for Lyon star Memphis Depay

Tottenham are ready to bid £50million for former Manchester United star Memphis Depay, according to the Mirror.

The Dutch attacker struggled at Old Trafford after joining from PSV Eindhoven (h/t Mirror) and was sent out on loan to Lyon initially.

Depay did well there and moved permanently to the Ligue 1 club. The 25-year-old’s career has been revitalised since his move to France and he is a regular for the Dutch national team these days.

The attacker has scored 12 times for Lyon this season and is capable of playing anywhere across the front line.

Tottenham scouting Depay

Spurs are one of the clubs interested in the Dutchman and have scouted the 25-year-old during the two Champions League clashes between Lyon and Benfica (h/t Mirror).

The report claims that Spurs also got a chance to watch Depay’s teammate Moussa Dembele, however, the Dutch attacker is their main target for the moment.

United do have a buy-back clause in Depay’s contract and the report claims that his asking price would have increased a lot from the £15m Lyon paid to land him initially.

Tottenham didn’t buy any all-out attackers during the summer, with Ryan Sessegnon the only one who can play wide. There is no senior cover for Harry Kane either, and it will be interesting to see if we move for Depay.

Manchester United enter talks to sign Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen

Manchester United have opened negotiations to sign Christian Eriksen in the January transfer window, according to El Desmarque (h/t Express).

The 27-year-old Dane is a free agent at the end of the season and could leave for nothing in the summer.

Eriksen only has two goals to his name this season for us and was on the bench in our 1-1 draw with Sheffield United on Saturday.

The report claims that United tried to sign Eriksen during the summer. However, the Dane rebuffed advances from them as he wanted to play for Real Madrid (h/t Express).

The Dane has now given up on playing for Los Galacticos and United will try to land him in January (h/t Express).

The Red Devils will place a £42million bid for the Tottenham star in hopes of signing him before the summer window (h/t Express).

Tottenham in a tough position

Getting £42m for a player who is in the last six months of his contract would be a great deal for Tottenham. Eriksen just hasn’t clicked into gear this season and making some money during the winter window would be quite a wise move.

However, landing a replacement wouldn’t be easy in January and we could do with some fresh faces in the team. Giovani Lo Celso started his second game of the season against Sheffield United and could fill the gap left by Eriksen.
