Tottenham face Arsenal and Burnley competition for Nathan Wood

The Sun reports that Tottenham are interested in Middlesbrough defender Nathan Wood.

The 17-year-old has played for the England U18s and has also become Boro’s youngest player ever when he featured in the EFL Cup.

The report adds that Arsenal are also keen on the defender while Burnley will return with a bid after failing to land him in the summer.

The Clarets are willing to bid £9million for the 17-year-old in the January window (h/t Sun).

Wood mostly plays as a centre-back but is capable of taking up a defensive midfield role too.

Spurs looking at another youngster

Jack Clarke was signed in the summer and has a ton of potential. Ryan Sessegnon also joined us this season, and it will be interesting to see how he develops under Mauricio Pochettino.

Wood could be a great defender in the future but he isn’t a regular for Boro yet and needs more experience in the lower leagues before making the jump up.

Spurs could follow the Clarke route and send Wood back to the lower leagues to attain more first-team minutes.

Tottenham need to plan for their future too as both Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are in their 30s.

The pair are also out of contracts at the end of this season and could leave for free.
