Marcus Edwards stars in Vitoria’s loss to Arsenal in Europa League

Marcus Edwards was once touted to be the next big thing coming through the Tottenham system.

Unfortunately for the Englishman, things never really worked out and his loan spells didn’t seem to get the best out of him either.

The 20-year-old left Spurs in the summer and signed for Portuguese side Vitoria de Guimaraes, not the biggest team from that league.

Marcus Edwards celebrates his goal against Arsenal

Edwards has started both games for them in the Europa League and was up against our bitter rivals Arsenal. Vitoria weren’t fancied to do well against the Gunners, but Edwards gave them a shock lead with a great goal after just eight minutes.

The Gunners then responded with Gabriel Martinelli’s equaliser but Bruno Duarte scored for the away side as the Portuguese went into half-time with the lead.

Vitoria can’t hold on for a remarkable win

The away side had several other chances to score and put the game beyond doubt but were denied by the Arsenal keeper. The Gunners had to bring on Nicolas Pepe late in the game and he scored a couple of fantastic free-kicks.

The second one came deep into injury time but Edwards was impressive for the away side. Hopefully, this is the start of something big the former Spurs star and he resurrects his career in Portugal.

Many Tottenham fans were pleased to see their former player do well and here are some of the reactions from Twitter.
