Mauricio Pochettino could use personal connection to land Carles Alena

Tottenham are interested in Barcelona star Carles Alena, according to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Express).

The 21-year-old has struggled for regular game time at Barcelona after breaking into the first-team last season.

Alena has just 46 minutes of La Liga football under his belt and the Spaniard will be allowed to leave the Nou Camp on loan in the winter window (h/t Express).

The report claims that two Premier League clubs are keen on Alena but Spurs have an advantage, thanks to Mauricio Pochettino. The manager is very close to Alena’s representative Ivan de la Pena and they watched the Barca star in action together last season (h/t Express).

Barca want Alena to play

The Catalans would demand regular first-team action for Alena should he join another club in January (h/t Express).

Barca also value their academy product highly, who has a release clause of £64million, according to the report.

However, the youngster is yet to feature in the Champions League this season and has mostly played in the Copa del Rey.

It will be interesting to see if we make a move for Alena in the winter window. Tottenham have options for their midfield and with Giovani Lo Celso returning from a long-term injury, the Argentine could get more minutes on the pitch.

Fernandes has scored eight goals and provided six assists for Sporting this season. The 25-year-old also featured for the national team in their 6-0 win over Lithuania recently.

The midfielder was speaking about his future and claimed he has dreams to fulfil but won’t force a move away (h/t Daily Mail):

“I’m well, doing my job and doing the best I can. I have dreams to fulfil but I have no need to force my departure.

“I feel the love here and if I have to leave, I hope I leave good memories.”

Fernandes also claimed that he wasn’t worried about the transfer rumours, and it will be interesting to see if he is on the move later on.

Spurs to move in the winter window?

Fernandes was excellent in the previous campaign too as he racked up 20 goals and 13 assists in the league alone.

Tottenham made some big moves in the summer and have seen Tanguy Ndombele do well since joining.

Giovani Lo Celso, another midfielder who joined in the summer, has also started our last two games.

It will be interesting to see if we make a move for Fernandes in the winter window.

Christian Eriksen is a free agent at the end of the season and hasn’t been at his best either. We could do with more goals from the midfield, and Fernandes has a record of scoring regularly from that position.

However, the Championship side want to tie down their rising star to a new five-year deal (h/t Daily Mail).

However, they fear that Ferguson could even let his deal run down and move abroad in the summer (h/t Daily Mail).

Tottenham want to solve a problem area

Tottenham have had issues with their right-back slot in recent years.

Kieran Trippier was sold in the summer to Atletico Madrid while Serge Aurier and Kyle Walker-Peters have struggled to stay fit at the club.

Aurier has also struggled for form and the report claims that Tottenham see Ferguson as a long-term solution to this position.

It will be interesting to see if we move for the youngster in the winter window. Spurs could wait till the end of the campaign and land him for a compensation fee decided by a tribunal too.

However, the Red Devils are willing to offer €10million while Juventus want €15m for the forward (h/t Calciomercato).

This could open the door for Tottenham to enter the fray as Paratici is also trying to find other buyers, according to the report.

Tottenham are interested in the former Atletico Madrid star and could move for him in the January window (h/t Calciomercato).

West Ham are also keen on the striker (h/t Calciomercato) and it will be interesting to see where Mandzukic lands in January.

A handful in the box

Mandzukic doesn’t have a great scoring record for Juventus, but he provides a lot of quality in the air.

The Croatian is great at winning headers and could provide Spurs with a different option in the attack.

Tottenham don’t have recognised cover for Harry Kane after allowing Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen to leave in the summer.

Mandzukic scored nine Serie A goals from 25 appearances in the previous season and provided six assists too.

Mauricio Pochettino upset at failure to sign Philippe Coutinho in summer

Mauricio Pochettino is unhappy after missing out on Philippe Coutinho in the summer, reports The Sun.

The former Liverpool star was sent out on loan to Bayern Munich in the summer but has only scored twice so far this season.

Coutinho played under Pochettino during their spell at Espanyol, and the Brazilian did a decent job on loan at the La Liga club.

The Sun adds that Pochettino has complained about a lack of funds to rebuild his Spurs team.

Tottenham reached the Champions League final in the previous campaign, but have struggled for positive results this season.

We lie 14th in the Premier League and are 11 points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.

Tottenham struggling throughout the campaign

The Premier League has been tough on us but things haven’t been better in other competitions too.

We were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Colchester United and lost 7-2 to Bayern Munich at home in the Champions League.

Coutinho’s time in the Bundesliga hasn’t gone extremely well, and it would have been interesting to see him at Tottenham.

The Brazilian was great during his Liverpool spell, and Pochettino could have extracted the best out of the midfielder at Spurs.

Christian Eriksen is one of the players who has struggled for goals this season too. The Dane only has two to his name and was on the bench in the 1-1 draw against Sheffield.

Coutinho is going through a similar patch too, and has come off the bench in his last two appearances for Bayern.
