He believes that the 21-year-old would be an “outstanding” addition to the roster at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. John Wenham’s comments come on the back of a Telegraph report vouching Daniel Levy & Co. as potential buyers for the Athletic Bilbao forward.
Williams or Werner? Spurs face choice between youngster and experience
John Wenham, in his exclusive interview with Tottenham News, acknowledges that it is highly unlikely that the club signs both Werner and Williams on a permanent deal this summer. He said:
“If Spurs were to spend the £42.8million on Williams, that wouldn’t be good for Werner’s future at Tottenham,” Wenham said.
“In that situation, the club are likely to thank Werner for the season, what he has done for the team and wish him well and use the money that would go toward him to sign Williams.
“Williams would be an outstanding signing and a real statement of intent.”
While Timo Werner has been outstanding since signing for Tottenham in January from RB Leipzig on a loan deal, While the Lilywhites have the option of making his temporary stay a permanent one, if the club has to choose between the German international and Nico Williams, then signing the latter would be a ‘statement of intent’ from Daniel Levy, showing his commitment to the Australian gaffer’s project at the club.

Williams is not only significantly young but also has a higher potential as a player. That being said, Werner has settled in seamlessly to life in North London, and bringing him in for a cheap fee could be an excellent addition to the depth of the squad.
