Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United will be butting heads for star striker this summer
While speaking on talkSPORT, Ally McCoist said that Ivan Toney should snub Manchester United and make the ‘obvious’ choice by signing with Tottenham Hotspur this summer. With the Red Devils Toney would get to partner up with Rasmus Hojlund.
Now the young Dane has a bright future ahead of him and the Old Trafford squad should be focusing on developing him. On the other hand, 28-year-old Toney is already the finished article.
So, there might not be a lot of space for him on the Red Devils’ roster. While Toney will come in and be one of their strongest offensive options, United might still prefer to develop Rasmus Hojlund over giving him regular minutes. “Manchester United, for sure, because Rasmus Hojlund, he is going to go on and be a good footballer, and I think we would all agree with that, but right now, you know, he is learning his trade. Toney is pretty much the finished article, but I think the obvious choice for Ivan Toney is Tottenham. “
McCoist added that Toney is the closest player to Harry Kane that Tottenham can hope of signing. He’s a clinical finisher, he can drop deep to dictate play, and as we said above, Ivan Toney is already the finished article.
The Spurs are in desperate need of someone who can convert chances regularly. James Maddison is already one of the best playmakers in the Premier League, pairing him up with a solid striker will be the next step to success.
A lot of teams will be circling around Toney this summer. So, the Lilywhites will have to show urgency if they’re truly serious about signing him.

Tottenham will have to beat the likes of Manchester United for the signature of Ivan Toney. Hopefully, they can be swift about dealings and get a deal done as quickly as possible.
