Tottenham Hotspur chase Lutsharel Geertruida
Tottenham Hotspur have expressed interest in signing highly-rated Dutch defender Lutsharel Geertruida in the upcoming summer transfer window. However, per Soccer News, the Lilywhites will face competition from close neighbours Arsenal for his signatures as the Gunners look to bolster their defensive depth ahead of the new season.
Geertruida’s impressive performances in the Eredivisie have caught the attention of several top clubs, making the race for his signature highly competitive. He has been an integral part of the Feyenoord setup under Arne Slot, and his versatile profile has attracted interest from Premier League clubs. The 23-year-old can feature as a central defender as well as on either flank (full-back).
Can he replace Emerson at Spurs?
Tottenham are set to give a go-ahead to Emerson. Royal’s departure in the off-season and the Brazilian ace’s versatility came in handy in the recently concluded season, where originally a right-back Royal also played at the heart of defence as well as in the left-back role. Lutsharel Geertruida would prove to be an ideal alternative to the Milan-linked full-back.
He does fit into the attacking mindset playing style of Ange Postecoglou, as Geertruida likes to come across offensively at every opportunity he gets. The 23-year-old has contributed to nine goals and five assists in the past campaign, and that would be a massive addition to Spurs arsenal if they managed to secure his services.
With his contract at Feyenoord Stadium due in 2025, he should be up for grabs for a reasonable price this summer. Meanwhile, with Arsenal keen, it gets a bit tricky to snap his services, with the North London Reds being one of the most prestigious interests for the past couple of years.
