Former Tottenham scout bats for Ivan Toney over Dominic Solanke

Tottenham Hotspur FC are expected to sign a marquee striker in the summer transfer window, and the North Londoners have been subject to links with multiple center-forwards in the build-up to the window as former scout Bryan King picks his pick.

The Lilywhites are yet to replace Harry Kane, who left for Bayern Munich last year, and with the progress that Ange Postecoglou has made at the club in such a short span of time, Daniel Levy will be looking to provide the Australian with the needed armor in his arsenal to ensure they keep on building on their recent successes.

Former head scout at Hotspur Way, Bryan King, says that he would be looking to sign Ivan Toney over Dominic Solanke amid a recent £65 million transfer update on the latter. There is a release clause for the former Liverpool number nine in his current contract with Bournemouth, which would make him available for £65 million this summer, per The Athletic.

However, King insists that the money would be better spent elsewhere than with the Bournemouth ace, as he feels that the 26-year-old would not fit into a forward line in Ange’s style of play. He acknowledges how Toney, who has three caps for England, would fit into the Spurs forward line better than Solanke. In an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, he said:

“Tottenham needs a center-forward; Richarlison is the only one,” King said.

“They have played Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski through the middle. They’ve been crying out for a new number nine since Harry Kane left. I think Ivan Toney would be the man for Tottenham to sign. Perhaps they would be better off putting any money for Solanke toward Toney instead; he only has a year left on his contract.

“He is certainly one to look at.”

Richarlison was the sole striker at White Hart Lane last season, and owing to his injury inconsistency, Ange would be looking to ensure he gets a new striker this summer window.
